What is Cremation?

It’s the process that reduces a body to about 3-7 pounds of cremated remains. It involves pressurized, intense heat and flames of about 1200 degrees and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. After that, the remains are processed to the consistency of coarse sand or gravel.

Do We Have to Buy an Urn for the Remains?

Our service includes a minimal cardboard urn. You can choose other options from this site or you can use an urn purchased from another source, if you desire.

What is Direct Cremation?

It involves just the handling of the body, cremation and return of the remains.“Direct Cremation” are words prescribed by the Federal Trade Commission for this type of service. Gatherings or ceremonies are not provided, the body isn’t embalmed or otherwise prepared, and a cremation container is used instead of a casket.

I want to ship the urn and cremated remains overnight to family out of town. Can you do that?

Only the U.S. Postal Service will transport cremated remains via Registered or Express Mail. FedEx, UPS and DHL will not, as cremated remains are uninsurable. They can deliver an empty urn, just not one containing remains.

Is a Casket Required?

No. Alternative containers are most often used for cremation and can be constructed of cardboard, plywood or composite wood materials, or can be pouches made of plastic or cardboard. Container requirements are set by crematories’ policies.

Who Can Authorize a Cremation?

First would be a surviving spouse. If the spouse is deceased, children may authorize. If the children are also deceased, a grandchild may authorize. If you have questions or an unusual situation, please call.
